High Intensity Interval Training Workout: The Heartbreaker

In case you haven't been in a single store recently, Valentine's Day is nearly upon us. I'm kind of a Grinch about Valentine's Day. I've never liked the holiday -- it just seems like it puts pressure on everyone

If you're in a relationship, it puts pressure on both people to come up with something romantic and sweet and loving on a random day in February. And if you're single it puts pressure on you to find romance and basically just makes you feel like you're the loneliest person in the world who will definitely die alone as you see your paired-up friends get chocolate or flowers (that are monstrously overpriced, by the way, because of this ridiculous holiday).

I'm all in favor of a holiday dedicated to love, but let's be honest, that's what the December holidays have become -- a time to cherish your family and friends. So that just leaves Valentine's Day to make everyone feel bad about themselves.

Thankfully, I have a solution. I decided to create this Heartbreaker High Intensity Interval Training Workout because there's no better way to feel awesome than to work your ass off and rain sweat on this silly holiday.

Let's make the hearts that are tacked up everywhere stand for heart-healthy as we mix some tough strength exercises with killer cardio intervals.

(Oh, and if you don't agree with my feelings on Valentine's Day, you can still do this workout. I promise it won't turn you into a V-Day Grinch like me.)

Complete as many repetitions of each exercise as possible in 1 minute, resting only between sets. Repeat circuit for a 30 minute full-body workout.

I've included videos below for each exercise in case you aren't sure how to do it!

Set 1

Set 2
Burpees (push-up in burpee optional)
Push-Ups
Tricep Dips
Shoulder Presses
Mountain Climbers

Set 3
Frog Jumps
Side Plank
Spider-Mans
Plank
Jumping Jacks

Do you like Valentine's Day or are you a V-Day Grinch?

OH LORD! This one looks even harder than the Fast 'n' Sweaty one. This one might kill me ;) I"m so happy that I'm not the only one who feels this way about Valentine's Day; I couldn't have said it any better myself!

  2. I think this workout might kill me, which means I'll be trying it as soon as I work up the nerve. The only thing special about Valentine's Day for me is that it's my mom's birthday. Otherwise, I don't need the commercialized love fest.

    1. Let me know what you think if you try it! And I think it's the commercial aspect of Valentine's Day that bothers me the most. Having a birthday on it would be kind of nice, though, because you'd have someone you cared about to celebrate and could ignore the other parts!

  3. LOL! I'm definitely a V-Day Grinch--no shame! I completely agree with you--the holiday is for marketing execs and big-time brands to jack up prices (and pressure!). I'll be celebrating with wine and cupcakes probably. ;)

  4. I'm totally going to have to do this. I hate Valentine's day with a passion lol. Actually, my fiance and I both do! I can't wait to do this workout!

  5. I think I've been so busy with work, vacation etc that I haven't even noticed that it is coming up! I'm pretty much "meh" about the whole thing. But boy does this workout look like it will burn! Oh so good :)

  6. This looks TOUGH. I'm actually excited about VDay this year because though my husband was here for our first year to celebrate together, the past two Valentine's Days he's been in Afghanistan. So it's going to be a very happy day for us. :)
