I hope everyone had a good weekend!
Friday night, Sourabh met me at my office and we headed to the East Village to our favorite Mexican place, Hecho en Dumbo. (Yes, in Spanish, that's "Made in Dumbo" -- the restaurant started in Brooklyn then moved to the East Village and kept its name.) There are definitely better Mexican restaurants in NYC, but we both love Hecho en Dumbo's moderately-priced small plates, and fun atmosphere. Not to mention their oh-so-good queso.
We walked through Washington Square Park so that we could conclude dinner at one of my favorite New York frozen yogurt shops, Big Gay Ice Cream, before taking the subway home. We split the Bea Arthur, which is vanilla froyo in a dulce de leche-lined cone, with dulce de leche swirled into the froyo and dipped in crushed nilla wafers.
Saturday, after joining Laura for some miles on her way to completing the NYRR 60K (that's 37.28 miles, for the non-metric folks like me), I picked up my bib with Sourabh and Mason then proceeded to have an incredibly lazy day. I felt kind of sick all weekend, which got worse Sunday -- although I still PR'd in the 5 mile race I ran Sunday morning! -- and the number of hours I spent on the couch definitely reflected that.
I realized I forgot to include goals in my weekly workout recap and goals post last week. That's kind of emblematic of where I am right now, actually. Not that I'm not working out -- it's just that I'm more focused on doing the workouts my body wants when I wake up that morning, rather than fitting in a specific workout.
For this week, I'm not going to post goals again, since it's not my workout goals that motivate me; rather, I just don't want to report on the internet that I did nothing all week!
Monday: 5.5 miles in Central Park with Fiona.
Early mornings are absolutely glorious right now in Central Park. It was also great to catch up with Fiona, who I hadn't seen in a long time.
Tuesday: (1) AM 20 minutes stretching and core work. (2) PM 60 minute Vinyasa class at Equinox.
Wednesday: 45 minute spin class at Equinox.
Thursday: (1) 3.5 miles in Central Park with Nicole. (2) 60 minute strength training with personal trainer, Amanda.
It was SO cold out! Nicole texted me after our run that while our weather apps said the temperature was 35, it felt like 28 degrees with windchill. BRR! Not ready for those temps yet! Actually I'm never ready. I hate the cold!
Friday: Rest day.
Saturday: 8 miles in Central Park with Laura.
Oh, NBD, just running 37 miles. Laura just ran her 100th marathon at the NYC Marathon two weeks ago, and she set a PR on the NYRR 60K on Saturday. I enjoyed doing two of her nine loops in Central Park with her! The course was a nice set-up, looping clockwise along the middle loop (crossing at the 72nd Street and 102nd Street Transverses).
Sunday: 5.75 miles in Central Park (Join the Voices 5 mile race + .75 mile w/u).
I really didn't feel good at all, but trust my competitive spirit to kick in the minute I passed the start line. I'll have a proper recap up this week. For now, I'll just say that I was extremely psyched about my new PR on the 5 mile race distance! I overran the course (oops) so my average pace was 8:24 -- also a NYRR race pace PR. Woot!
After a major goal race, do you treat working out and exercise differently? How was your weekend?
